It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have already been conquered.

This is the unit that has won seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a squad that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their hitters to hold a record if never given the chance.

In the end, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy being given a chance to produce her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have come from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort is debatable.

Certain people claim the case for final game tension. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this performance followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in training, it has been a challenging time because I feel like I've had no rhythm at all," stated Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the batsman was underway.

"A chance to take the field and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was out her side needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an unconquered height now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I am glad we have the belief to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, if necessary, we know we can do it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this tournament need to hear.

During the last week a sense they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this success succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated through the pain.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have delayed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is anticipated as her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a global event as skipper.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
